As the middle child of three boys, DeVon Franklin always felt like he was in a fight to find where he fit in the world. This fight for his place has been tough and lonely, compounded by the death of DeVon’s alcoholic father when he was 9 years old. The pain sent DeVon into a traumatic tailspin. He didn’t know how to cope, and his mother barely had money for food for him and his brothers, let alone money for counseling.
What ultimately became DeVon’s saving grace was a powerful combination of entertainment and church. Church gave DeVon an outlet for his pain because it made him feel purposeful, while watching films like Rocky and TV shows like A Different World captivated his imagination and brought DeVon hope in the face of his own darkness.
DeVon is currently President & CEO of his own Film & TV company, Franklin Entertainment; a New York Times best-selling author; a preacher and motivational speaker. DeVon’s purpose is to use media and entertainment as an inspirational tool to help as many people as possible find their place in the world by reminding them that they aren’t alone and the power of faith absolutely works.
