From a young age, it’s been Maya Penn’s passion to make a positive impact on the environment, the planet and all of its creatures.
Sixteen-year-old Maya is the founder and CEO of Maya’s Ideas, an eco-friendly accessories company started in 2008 when she was 8 years old. When Maya started her business, she says she knew two things: all of her products had to be eco-friendly and she had to put her profits towards making an impact.
Maya is also an animator/film maker, artist, illustrator, philanthropist, girl’s rights activist and environmentalist. She has been featured in/on Forbes, CNN, TIME Magazine, The View, NPR, Wired, Essence, The Steve Harvey Show and more. She is the youngest female ever to do two back-to-back official TEDTalks. Of the profits she makes, 10-20 percent go to local and global charities and environmental and women/girls rights organizations. Maya is also a coder and has partnered with Google for their MadeWithCode initiatives and speaks to girls across the country. She also has her own nonprofit organization called Maya’s Ideas 4 The Planet.
Maya works globally to empower and inspire others—especially youth—to unleash their awesomeness, find their path and change their world.
