In her new memoir, They’re Playing Our Song, songwriting legend Carole Bayer Sager opens up about the most vulnerable times in her life, including her rather unhappy marriage and painful breakup from composer, songwriter, producer and singer Burt Bacharach.
As Carole puts it, her life didn’t fully begin until she met her now husband of 20 years, Bob Daly, a former CBS executive. “When I met Bob, and I was in my late 40s when I met Bob, my life changed. Because finally in my life—and it’s wrong to say it took a man. I’d rather say to you, ‘I found myself, and I went through this world. I traveled the globe, and I came into my own. And then I had inner peace, and then I met this man.’ But no. I met this man, and he said he loved me. And he didn’t care what I did, or what my accomplishments were, and he meant it.”
In a personal moment, Carole reveals how Bob’s straightforward love and support led to a feeling of safety she had never experienced before in her life.
