Each day includes so many spiritual successes and failures, it can seem difficult to take a step back and learn from them. That’s why Jack Canfield, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series and author of The Success Principles, sets aside time nearly every day to recount his victories and shortcomings.

In addition to maintaining a list of successes, Jack asks himself a key question every night that helps him do better the next day. “At the end of the day, I say, ‘Where could I have been more?’ And I’m working on equality all the time, of love, compassion, joy, courage, whatever. ‘Where could I have been more loving today? Oh, in the bank I got really upset with a teller because the line was too long.’ And then I re-play it in my mind the way I would have liked it to have been had I been more conscious in that moment, so I’m laying a blueprint down for the next day to be more loving.”
